Slavery was a huge part of society prior to the Civil War, and today slavery is illegal in every part of the world since it was deemed immoral and wrong. However, the Civil War also changed society in the southern states because slavery served as the main labor force. Battles like the Battle of Gettysburg have shown how people can make a stand on morals that challenge social norms. The Battle of Gettysburg was an important part of American history because of its importance, location, and effects the battle had on residences in the area.

In other words, the Battle of Gettysburg was marked by Lincoln’s
Gettysburg Address and the number of casualties on both sides. However, the Battle of
Gettysburg was also the turning point of the Civil War since the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in the South (American Battlefield Trust 2023). Evidently, the turning point of the
Civil War was marked by the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863 and the
Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. To conclude, the Battle of Gettysburg was an important part of the Civil War and American history between 1500 and 1865 because it was marked as a turning point of the Civil War.

Although the Battle of Gettysburg was important, the battle can be seen as another
Confederate attempt at ending the Civil War by invading and conquering the North. In fact,
Robert E. Lee’s ambitious goal of an invasion of the North comes to an end as the second failed attempt at successfully fulfilling the goal to end the war at Adams County,

For example, many African American residents in the North decided to flee because the
Confederate forces believed that they were contrabands based on the color of their skin
(American Battlefield Trust 2023). In other words, the Confederate forces broke the statements of the Emancipation Proclamation by attempting to capture African American residences in and around the battlefield as contraband. However, this also means that the South also acted upon their own laws, and they ignored the laws that were put in place by many of the northern states.
Therefore, many of the residents lived in and around the Battle of Gettysburg battlefield because of the South’s forces.
In conclusion, an analysis of the Battle of Gettysburg has shown it to be an important battle in history because of its importance in the Civil War, the location of the battle, and the effects of the location on the residences in and around the battlefield.
