In chapters 14 and 15 of Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer becomes more than just an investigator or a narrator, he becomes a character. He tells his story of climbing the Devils Thumb, which exposes the similarities between himself and McCandless. This aids to his understanding of McCandless’s motivations, without ever meeting him, due to the parallels in their personalities and family issues. Chapter 14 is devoted to Krakauer’s story about his youthful love for mountain climbing. At age 23, he plans to do a dangerous climb on the Devil’s Thumb in Alaska alone. “
An imaginary“Beast”, haunting and terrifying. What does this “Beast” from Lord of the Flies? Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding. The novel takes place on an unnamed island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. On that island, a group of school had crashed after having their plane shot down during World War Two when evacuating their school.
What is the definition of the“beast”? After World WarⅡ, a group of boys become stranded on an island. With their pilot (the only adult) dead, they immediately construct an authority order along with a system of rules. Throughout the story, Lord Of The Flies, the boys believe there is a beast, the question here is “what is the beast?” One of the meanings of the beast is fear itself.
When considering the beastie in the Lord of the Flies, Piggy and Simon's comments reveal that the boys' fear of the beastie could just be their own fears. Or, in other words, the beast on the island is them. Piggy first builds on this idea, saying that "I know there is no fear... Unless we get frightened of people" (Golding 84). Simon addresses this topic in a similar fashion to Piggy.

Once that adversity has been overcome the feeling of accomplishment is even greater than imagined. In the book Wild, by Cheryl Strayed, Strayed had been hiking for awhile and realized that she started to run out of water and started to get really dehydrated. Her guide book said that there was water nearby but she didn't know if it was close enough to make it to before she might die of dehydration. She started to reflect on her accomplishments and said, “In spite and because of its hardships and I’d gotten myself into this place on my own two feet” (Strayed 195).
Story is an integral element in human life. Stories are the way humans have shared and learned for thousands of years. Storytelling is different from story writing. When a story is told, the original content lingers as long as the storytellers maintain that content. Once the story is retold it takes on different details and meaning.
Into The Wild was a tremendous story which Shaun Callarman did not have many positive things to say about Chris McCandless, the main character. He went on this adventure to find out what life is all about in his own eyes. He wanted to see how different living in the wild really was compared to society because he was not satisfied with his living arrangements and household. Shaun’s quote says that he thinks “Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness.
Small birds called brown-headed cowbirds are found all through the North American grasslands and also along the edges of forests. The birds depend on grazing animals to find insects and seeds for their food. The food is then digested and used for energy. The female brown-headed cowbird will lay her eggs in the nest of another bird if she sees eggs in that nest.
In Jim Goldberg’s Raised by Wolves, he integrates himself with the runway adolescent and get to know their story. Goldberg take picture of their lives as well as their feeling to include in the book, and I see a lot of the sad writing from the adolescent about their life. In addition, I feel like Goldberg’s style of photo is very direct with dark hue in his work depicting the dark time for some of the runaway adolescents. Through his work of “Raise by Wolves”, I can see how the subjects suffer from domestic violence and drugs without having a second thought. On the other hand, Martin Parr takes a different approach on socially concerned photography.
“Beasts of the Southern Wild” is a film that the focuses on the Louisiana levee as a barrier between two completely different ways of living. Benh Zeitlin uses the community of The Bathtub to shine a different light on poverty. He discusses the idea that not all people share the belief that the higher your quality of life is, the happier you are. In fact, the people of The Bathtub do not have a linear view of socioeconomic circumstance at all.
An Analysis and understanding of John Locke John Locke was an English philosopher and an absolute juggernaut in his realm of understanding and influence. He is regarded as one of the most influential if not the most influential thinkers of his time. Locke’s perspectives on government, individual freedom, natural rights, and the social contract had and still have a significant impact on the growth and founding of the United States and its ideas. His influence on America is still very prevalent in the realm of political influence and thinking.
We, humans, tend to daily communicate with one another, through the art of storytelling. What we have not yet all come to realize, are the dangers that storytelling can actually cause. Everyone including myself, is guilty of believing and adding on to the weight of the single stories we are told. The same single story that could have the power to break someone 's dignity, is capable of fixing it as well.
The central idea of the poem “The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry is that although many injustices plague the world, it is good to live in the present for a moment and have hope for peace. Berry describes how he finds peace as, “When despair for the world grows in me… I come into the peace of the wild things… for a time I rest in the grace of the world, and I am free.” When Berry’s worries become too much to handle, he likes to be in nature because nature doesn’t worry about things like people. He takes a second to go out into nature and surround himself it’s peace so he can be in the present, if only just for a second, and not worry about the injustices in the world. People are storytellers, they tell stories about their experiences and the meanings that these experiences have for themselves. All cultures also possess their own stories about their past and their present, and sometimes about their view of the future. In his book The Neverending Story, written by Michael Ende, reflects his belief that the importance of storytelling is not to projects our everyday lifestyle but to create new stories and stimulate the reader’s imagination.
