The Beatles are one of the most iconic bands of all time, known for their unique sound that blended various genres of music together seamlessly . Their music was heavily influenced by African American popular music, which is evident in many of their songs together and apart. In this essay, I will discuss four songs by the Beatles, one by each member, and observe as well as explain the influence of African American popular music on their music.
The first song is "Maybe I'm Amazed" Composed by Paul McCartney, which was released in 1970. This track is a fast paced, rock song with upbeat catchy hooks and a powerful message about the consequences of one's actions that are immediate rather than borne out over a lifetime. The next song is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by George Harrison, which was released in 1968. This track is a beautiful ballad with a haunting melody and intricate guitar work, another version was composed by the Jeff Healey Band which I think is the best version of the song. The fourth and final songis "Don't Pass Me By" composed by Ringo Starr Recorded June 6th and was released the 22nd of November 1968. This track is a fun, playful and upbeat country inspired song with an easily catchy melody and quirky lyrics.
