I read the book named “Because of Winn-Dixie.” The main characters of this book are Opal and Winn-Dixie. The preacher, Otis, Gloria, Miss Franny, Amanda, Sweetie Pie, Dunlap, and Stevie are secondary characters. The preacher is Opal’s father, and Dunlap and Stevie appear in this story as the Dewberry brothers. The plot of this story is Opal and her father move into a small town called Naomi. Opal feels lonely without friends and her mother. One day Opal comes across a wild dog and brings him to her house. She named the dog Winn-Dixie after the name of the supermarket that they met in. Winn-Dixie can smile and is a genius that found friends for Opal, Ms. Franny, Gloria, Otis, Amanda, Sweetie Pie, and Dewberry brothers. Opal learned a lot of important things from Gloria, Ms. Franny, and Otis. Now Opal doesn’t feel lonely and empty anymore, and all of the people around Opal doesn’t feel lonely as well. At last everyone comes to feel happy through friendship. The major conflicts are loneliness and the search for friendship. In the novel, the author starts sentences with “and” and “but”, however, a sentence should not start with that. At the beginning, Opal and the preacher (her father) were not in a good relationship, but the writer doesn’t tell why they weren’t in a good relationship. I feel it doesn’t work that characteristic of the person of this book are not enough. That means like a relationship of Opal and his father. I think the book could have been done better that Winn-Dixie should speak more and express more to the readers about the feelings inside.
