My experience at California Boy’s State is one that I will carry with me and continue to share to all my fellow classmates. I found out about this opportunity when a counselor called me in and recommended that I apply for a spot to be a delegate for the program. Immediately, I was flattered to be selected from a list of the male population in my grade to be eligible and referred to as a potential candidate. I was not brought up in a supportive home growing up, so the validation of being considered for this opportunity is what inspired me to put everything into being a representative for my school. After my interview with the American Legion members of my local post, I learned that I was selected to solely represent my high school for the summer conference in Sacramento. I will admit I was intimidated to go alone, but I thought of the opportunity as a way to grow and test my capabilities. …show more content…

I undertook the role of serving on the Elections Board Committee and intended to put forth my full effort into a position I had the privilege of receiving. In my experience being a student leader, I have not lead others on a statewide level nor had any impact on this level. The role I campaigned for and won elevated my passion for leadership. Being given a platform in which I was allowed to spread my ability to advocate was an event that significantly made me who I am today. My responsibilities were to cooperatively work with a group of students and reenact an official voting for roles in government. Integrity, which I believe resonates with me, is a trait I applied to my role. Setting an example for others under pressure allowed me to become equipped with necessary skills; moreover, I also joined the Alumni Association and carried out these skills in my senior year to effectively plan events and grow with my peers to become motivated
