I, Lanie Breitbach, am honored to be among the group of students who are being considered for the National Honors Society. I have had many opportunities and privileges in my lifetime as part of the New Hampton community. First, I have the privilege of being Rick and Ruth Breitbach's daughter. Being the daughter of a local farmer has given me the opportunity to learn about our community from an agricultural standpoint. Like many of my peers, I have been given the opportunity to pick rock, work with livestock, and be a laborer during the planting and harvest season. Teaching the different levels and watching the children improve was a rewarding experience for me. Refereeing for soccer and being an umpire for little league baseball and softball taught me discipline and leadership with children and parents. At the CWC, I enjoy the opportunity to assist and communicate with people in the community striving for a healthier lifestyle. I enjoy volunteering in the community and working with people of all ages. I find it is very gratifying to know that when we all work together for a common cause, the outcome is beneficial to people in our community. These experiences in the New Hampton community have created and strengthened my values of hard work, academic success through education, and community participation. As an eager young person, I believe these are the key factors in having a career and being successful in life. I know that many of my peers share my enthusiasm for success and the New Hampton community has a history of strengthening young people to become successful adults. I also know the difficult decision that is before this committee in making the choice for those whom will be selected into this year’s National Honors Society, this decision will require both thought and hard consideration.
