During the spelling bee month, I decided to compete in the French spelling contest. The day of the competition came in a blink of an eye and evoked a hysterical feeling inside of me. I felt frightened and excited all at the same time. When I heard my name called out in the contest, I thought what Ray Bradbury had once said, "Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall," which means that risks must be taken because the greatest danger in life is to not take any risks. When I stepped forward, I felt anxious and tense because everyone in the audience was looking at me. I thought that if I did not take the risk, I would lose the strength that would allow me to take risks later in life. The first word that I spelled was réussir, meaning to succeed. I imagined the word, and without thinking about it, the letters came out of my mouth like music. When competing, I took the risk of failing, but with perseverance, I successfully won third place. Thanks to that experience, I realized that if I take risks, it will help me achieve my goals, and it also helps me acquire something more valuable: experience, knowledge, and satisfaction. …show more content…
When Iwas at that age, my parents decided to make new decisions in their lives for a better future. Eventually, we moved to Winter Haven, Florida. This decision was a 180 degree turn in my life since I was confronted with a new culture as well as a different language. I still remember my first day of school in the United States as if it were yesterday. That day was both atrocious and exhilarating because I had to learn to jump and fly alone. I was not in the same school in which I had so many friends and people who spoke my language. I was in a new and unknown
