According to dosomething.org, one in five American children face hunger. In theory, this means that in my class of 20 kids, roughly four of them face hunger. According to a CNBC article, 42 million Americans suffer from hunger across the nation. This food insecurity as the Federal Government so kindly puts it, exists in every county in America.
There are a lot of problems in the world like poverty and pollution but hunger seems to be the most severe to me. There are so many different types of people who are famished most of the day just because they are homeless or because of their race. Studies show former foster youth, L.G.B.T. students and students of color are at substantially increased risk. One group of people who are in hunger the most is college students. College alone is so expensive that a lot of students can’t afford to even feed themselves.

Africa is beautiful but with all of the garbage and other things getting burned, Africa looks horrible. Asia is the continent with the most hungry people -- two thirds of the world’s total. Southern Asia faces the greatest hunger burden, with about 281 million undernourished people.2 I always thought that Africa was the most undernourished country, but now I know it’s Asia. Smaller countries are more likely to be undernourished, but that doesn’t mean they always are this is because of the few jobs. Since 1990, the world has reduced the number of people who live in extreme poverty by over half.
The right to food is a human right. It is universal, acknowledged at the national, regional and international level, and applies to every person and group of persons. Currently, however, some 852 million persons throughout the world are seriously – and permanently undernourished, 815 million of whom are in developing countries, 28 million in countries in transition and 9 million in developed (―industrialized‖) countries. Furthermore, every five seconds, a child under ten years of age dies of hunger or malnutrition1 – more than 5 million per year.
