In this world thousands of people are in hunger. Some of the kids who go to school are part of this world hunger because they may only be getting their meals from school. Their lunch may be their last meal of the day. Also the parents who work in restaurants may not make enough money to feed their kids and pay bills. People are in need of food so they are not starving and dying because they cannot eat.
In “Schools Out for Summer” by Anna Quindlen she talks about students who can only have a meal at school because their parents are not wealthy enough to feed them at home. Anna states, “And some kids don’t get enough to eat, no matter what people want to tell themselves” (199). She is trying to say that even though the kids do not eat at home they will still say they do. Anna also talks about how the parents of some of these kids go to food drives for families like theirs. Quindlen exclaimed, “And last Thanksgiving a food bank in Connecticut gave away four thousand more turkeys than the year before” (200). Kathleen says, “Well, except in how the employees who work there are treated” (210). This is saying the workers are not being treated like they should be treated. Kathleen also talks about how the customers should always leave tips in cash. Kingsbury states, “Tips in cash. Servers who make the tipped minimum wage often must rely on generous tippers to make up most of their take-home pays” (211). This means the worker may not earn lots of money so their tips help them earn more
