The Republican party actually began as a series of anti-slavery political meetings held in the Midwest in 1854. They are often referred to as the GOP (Grand Old Party). Their rivals are known as the democrats. They stand for traditional views. Most Republicans don't follow the crowd, they stand on the principles that made and founded this country. They believe that we have an exceptional country, but that we should follow the Constitution. Some of their beliefs are very contrary to the actions of the government today. With that, they believe that the "Institution of traditional marriage is the foundation of Society" and that "Culture should respect and protect life." Basically, they follow the Laws of the Bible, they conserve Christian values. They believe that the government should be working towards the good of the people, not the wants for them.
