The ACA was the important legislation which signed by president Barak Obama on March 23, 2010 which reforms the healthcare delivery system in the United States (7)
ACA played an important role in improved availability of the insurance with better access of care for the populations (7). ACA expand Medicare and Medicaid coverage, provided benefits to the people with income below 138% of the federal poverty level and covered younger adults in their parent’s policies (3). Moreover, ACA increased compensation to the primary care providers to improve primary care access and promote more preventive care. In addition to that, the ACA promoted the quality and scope of coverage by implementing the essential health benefits (EHBs) (4). ACA create Medicare payment incentives for hospitals and physicians to improve quality of care (7).
The ACA made insurance purchase easy by formation of health insurance exchanges which aggregate insurance options in one place to allow purchasers to easily compare which encourage competition among insurance providers (3). Nevertheless, The ACA also formed a mechanism to raise number of insurance providers to reduce premium and thus promote competition in state markets (6).
The ACA used cost containment phenomenon in the system which cause reductions in payments to certain health plans and providers in Medicare and Medicaid. In addition to that, ACA played an important role in reducing waste, fraud, and abuse (3).
