Censorship has many benefits. Censorship, as defined by Webster Dictionary, is "to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable". Another way it 's interpreted is that its when you purposely take something out in order to influence people a certain way, which can be beneficial. It can filter out hateful and inappropriate material out of media people are exposing themselves and their children too, but honestly, should it happen? Should people only expose children to certain things? No, it shouldn 't. Censorship in schools is a violation of rights. Most things, however, are better left purely factual and whole. We are guaranteed freedom from censorship in the first amendment, which gives us the freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and more. A Supreme Court case called Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District (1969), was a case about freedom of expression. In summary, the school district tried to censor the protest of the Vietnam war, and the students and their parents sued the school board. Tinker and her friends won, insuring freedom of expression to a degree. We already have guaranteed protection against censorship to some extent, so we should be trying to ensure our freedom from censorship on all bases, not censoring select mediums and subjects. Censorship should not be allowed in school. Exposure to different ideas, cultures, religions, and other things can be beneficial, and lack of exposure can be harmful and outright dangerous. Though censorship is sometimes for the best, most of the time it 's not worth it to erase information from a book of a lesson or a system entirely.
