Society may get to decide a hero’s place in society, but Society doesn’t get to decide who is a hero or is not. In the story of Beowulf, Beowulf was very popular in society as a legend. Yet in my life, my Mom is legendary to me and is just as big of a hero. In Beowulf, heroes were worshipped for fighting monsters, being brave, loyal, and having superhuman strength. Beowulf was more of a God-like human than a normal person. For instance, “Nor have I ever seen, Out of all the men on earth, one greater Than has come with you; no commoner carries such weapons” (161-164) This quote exemplifies how Beowulf’s identity in society is a superhuman being. Even though this Dane had never met him or seen him before, he could tell just by being in his presence
