The presidential candidate who is a contender for avid supporter of social work is Bernie Sanders. Sanders is the oldest of the democratic presidential party, but he is the one that has more views on today’ society. He seems to be concern with the issues that are happening in the here and now time frame. He stated that his political philosophy is based in his desire to address income inequality. He is known as the democratic socialism. In identify himself as this socialism person, he stated that it is immoral and wrong that 57 percent of all new income is going to the top 1 percent. He used the example of a working mother on maternity leave. Why can’t the United States follow other countries policies and procedures, when you have a baby? That is, we will not separate you from your newborn baby, because we are going to have medical and family paid leave, like every other country. He stated that United States should follow Denmark, Sweden and Norway, and learn from what they have accomplished for their working people. Some of Sanders other issues and concerns were addressed were that the minority populations have the highest incarceration rate in today’s society. To decrease this number, he stated that there is a need for rehabilitation of incarcerated people to get an education and learn job skills to work back in the community. …show more content…

Lowering the interest rate of student loans can help students afford to pay back. This is so important because many students have gone into default because they could not afford to meet their monthly payments. While lowering interest rate of student loans, he referenced about free tuition. Free tuition in the United States would give people an opportunity to go to college and receive a degree to better themselves in society. While doing that, it may cause the unemployment rate to decrease. This is an example of how policies can change poverty in our state and
