Many plays have settings that create alternate worlds. Shakespeare’s play Macbeth is quite similar to our own. There are themes like betrayal and ambition. Our world is different from Macbeth’s in that there is a supernatural influence in his. Shakespeare uses these themes to explain his message. His message is the theory of letting fate, the development of events beyond one’s control, run its course. In Macbeth Shakespeare creates a world where betrayal is present. The tragic hero is Macbeth; he is introduced as a Scottish lord, loyal to the Scottish king. King Duncan describes him as an amazing soldier, “he is full so valiant…a peerless kinsman” (I, v, 54).
