In life many people have to make tough decisions. In the novel Lyddie, by Katherine Paterson during the industrial revolution, Lyddie a young girl who has to work at a mill. In the mill there is a petition for better working circumstances . Lyddie is struggling to make a decision to sign the petition or not to sign the petition. While there are many reasons not to sign , there are more reasons to sign the petition. Two of the best reasons I found are the treatment of workers and better conditions. One reason to sign the petition is the treatment of the workers. One quote I found in the book was “nor did she notice that the taste of the meat was a bit of or the potatoes moldy “ I found that quote on page (98). > to me thats says that the girls in the mill are not getting treated fairly and not given good meals. Another good quote I found was “we've no place for sickly girls“. The only way the girls might of gotten sick was while they were working in the mill. I would not be surprised if one of the girl have died with the terrible condition the workers are in. Charlie and lyddie had been working so long that lyddie thinks there own mom forgotten about them . Another good reason is “Mr Marsden gave her a fourth loom” i found this quote on page (98)the people that owns the mill are working their workers too hard.. One more quote i found was “They could not keep up the pace” i found thing quote on page (89). The owners kept on speeding up the pace of the machines or/adding more machines to the workers it was hard for them to keep up.. That was another good reason to sign the
