Introductory Paragraph
School sports have been a tradition for many years, however many people think it interferes with student education. Studies have shown that without after school activities, students grades have increased. Therefore, schools should eliminate sports to help students reach their academic potential, provide money directly toward education, and get parents more involved with their kids learning.

Body Paragraph #1
As anyone who has been through college knows, students that do well in school are more likely to reach their career goals. According to an article written by Amanda Ripley, Ernest Singleton, the superintendent of Premont Independent School District located in Texas, canceled sports in order to decrease their academic failure rate (11). The result was that “the first semester after sports were canceled, 80% of students passed their classes” (Ripley 11). After eliminating sports, Premont School District found that,“About 160 people attended parent-teacher night compared with the 6 the year before” (Ripley 11). Nathan, a former Premont quarterback, stated that, “There was all this extra time” (Ripley 11). This data suggest that because sports were eliminated, parents became more involved and students had extra time for work and studying. This information supports that parent involvement is yet another matter that is affected with school sports.

Conclusion Paragraph As proven, school sports are in the way of student academics, school funding, and parents engrossment in their kids learning. This topic has been an ongoing conversation, but the results show that sports are negatively affecting students. Furthermore, school sports are not only very costly, they are in the way of a person reaching their academic
