Once I arrived at the main entrance, a feeling of anxiety set in. To many, the word prison might scare them. To some, they welcome the idea of prison. To others, they don 't care or have an opinion. I have also been a firm supporter of our criminal justice system, and am unsure why this feeling occurred.
This is a prison that is well-known for its violence (Press TV). Gangs ran Riker’s and correction officers did little to nothing about it. He was sent to the area for the adolescents which held those convicted from the ages of sixteen to eighteen. Because of the well-known violence that adolescents caused guards referred to them as “animal-ecents. (Furst)”
“The best time to cry it at night, when the lights are out and someone is being beaten up and screaming for help” (Myers 1). Having to clean disgusting floors, “You throw up, you clean it up!” Eating with strangers, sleeping with strangers, going to the bathroom in front of strangers. This is real life, not a movie; this is the real life of being in jail. Steve Harmon, the main character in the novel, Monster, written by Walter Dean Myers, experienced this.
Anthem Palace vs U.S Prisons Many people believe that prison holds the most dangerous people in the world. That might not be true because Anthem tells a different story entirely.. Anthem by Ayn Rand is about a dystopian society where if anybody does something wrong or commits a transgression they either get sentenced death or prison, which is known as The Palace of Corrective Detention. This where the protagonist Equality was sent. Modern day U.S society is much more progressive than Anthem’s society because of security, inmate treatment and construction.
If one thinks jails in modern-day U.S. society are bad, then he /she should consider exploring the detention facilities of other societies. Societies such as the one in Anthem (written by Ayn Rand) had a detention facility called the Palace of Corrective Detention which had horrible conditions compared to modern American jails. In the modern-day U.S. society people have more freedoms and liberties compared to Anthem 's society. After a close examination of Anthem, it is noticeably clear that the U.S. society is more progressive than the society in Anthem, which is glaringly obvious by contrasting modern-day U.S. jail with the Palace of Corrective Detention in Anthem.
Imagine a regular twenty-eight year old who is watching the television set with anticipation as anti-gerasone is first introduced. A large majority people would agree that living forever would have positive and beneficial effects; however, Kurt Vonnegut and Ray Bradbury demonstrate some of the clear misconceptions of not only being immortal, but equality and what humanity is doing to themselves. Vonnegut and Bradbury are two of the authors that have formed science fiction into the genre that it is today. In each of the stories, Fahrenheit 451, “The Big Trip Up Yonder”, and “Harrison Bergeron”, humanity has created an unnecessary problem through their thoughts and actions.
The scared straight part of this show is that prisoners has a chance to talk to the rebellious teens, and let them know how reality sets in once the prison cells closes. The prisoners shares the stories of how they became incarcerated. With the stories of the inmate, the teenager begins to ask questions about how not to become involved with the jail system? One inmate knows of this teenager’s deviant behaviors and tells him to stop bulling his younger siblings, go to school, and stop using drugs. The teenager is shocked to know that the inmate knows what he has down on the streets.

The book, Bad Feminist, written by Roxane Gay, is a collection of essays that argues about many topics of feminism and typical problems in today’s society. “What We Hunger For," is one of her personal essays. Gay reveals to her reader the difficult journey she had to endure as a teen, while also taking her reader through the cultural experiences that many girls endure but never talk about. She later explores The Hunger Games trilogy and its heroine Katniss Everdeen to emphasize the cathartic and sobering stories in young adult literature. Gay claims that through the use of young adult literature and movies that speak of true experiences and accomplishments, the dark past young adult endure can be unlock and resolved.

This inevitably earns them the most money and ratings. Glassner used the accurate statistics and the real stories that the news stations didn't use because then you would see how unnecessary they really are. They manipulate the truth so you become dependent on them for helpful tips about how to avoid these new dangers.
Within this quote we see that in St. Clair prison, inmates get raped and stabbed. These are reasons why prisons should be reformed. Prisoners shouldn’t be hurt for whatsoever problems. Conversely, Penal Reform International article suggested different reasons to reform prisons one that stood out to reform the particular prison in Alabama was this, Provide a healthy, safe environment. “Spaces that are filled with sunlight, outside views, therapeutic color schemes and normalized materials, encourage inmates’ participation, reduce stress, incidents and assaults and decrease staff absenteeism.”
Moreover, it triggers certain responses regarding attitude and behavior in the audience. Therefore, it is important to filter or rather watch out the king of media violence our children are exposed to at a tender age and as they grow
