The book 1984, by George Orwell is based in the theory of “Big Brother is Watching You”. In the book, the government controls their citizens by saying and ordering them into not doing certain things. It gives the readers an insight to a possible frightening future where there is a totalitarian government.The Party dominates every aspect of life. There is not a single thing that is not under the Party’s rule. Orwell’s book can be related with how the privacy of the American citizens is violated in the way that government and other agencies have access to your information without you even knowing. It is a society where information is manipulated and practiced through the mass surveillance and political and social repression. They believe all its inhabitants should follow these ideologies: War is peace, since the war causes citizens not to rise up against the State because of the fear towards the enemy and this way peace is kept. However, one of the characters from the novel O'Brien says that what it truly means is that "Peace is war". The next ideology is that “Freedom is slavery”. It would be easier for the government if society all have similar ideologies because it is easier for them to control society. As time goes by the government can implement laws in their favor, just as they have done to allow certain agencies to have access to our emails or information provided online. Agencies like the FBI can even capture the information and then use it against a person, and that person is not aware that have obtained their information.
