From our previous film showing, High Noon, we got a taste of how the Western genre portrayed Chicano/a characters. The late 1970’s saw a decline of the western, and “with the decline of the filmic western came the rise of the urban violence film” (Cortés 134). The 1980’s and 90’s saw film after film released portraying gang violence, and the Latino gang film was a “natural crossroads for sex, violence, and ethnicity” (Cortés 135). Some see these Latino gang members “as updated, modern variants of the Mexican bandit type” (Treviño). 1993 brought us the film Mi Vida Loca, which shows us the life of teenage Chicano/a gang members living in Echo Park, focused on the character known as Sad Girl.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
FOCUS STATEMENT: I believe that the Motorcycle groups are likewise an open security danger in the groups where they work as they join in different criminal acts, often utilize brutality and counter the endeavors of law requirement. A portion of the criminal action Motorcycle packs take an interest in are medication and weapons sneaking and also rough wrongdoing. Keeping in mind the end goal to perform such unlawful exercises, they use to battle with other bike group to have a hang on a coveted area (Bosmia et al.,2014). These battles empowers them to catch a spot where they can without much of a stretch perform all the deceptive exercises of the social orders and that is the means by which they plan to spread the range which goes under there limit. Growing up in a multicultural mecca like Canada, you learn a lot about other cultures and races, but you also learn about what others think of your culture, race, personality and religion. Everyone at one point or another has been shocked by someone acting differently to the stereotype perpetuated by others about their culture, race, ethnicity, or religion. Part of growing up in Canada is learning that your perception of someone was wrong. Time and time again, people stood up and proven that stereotypes are not only wrong but a crude and unfair generalization.
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.
The Roaring Twenties was a prime era for women. Because of the toils of many strong women, ideals were flipped on their head, to America’s benefit. In the late 1800’s, two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, quickly realized that women would not be able to share their political views unless given the right to vote. Because of the fact that women had basically no other societal roles besides housework, they were not respected during this time period.
To start off, kids in our community are allowed to ride bikes at any age. However, in the community you must be nine years of age before younare allowed to ride a bike. Jonas is talking about how he recalls being a nine and getting his first bicycle. Jonas is hinking about this time and he says “The children all received their bicycles at Nine; they were not allowed to ride bicycles before then” (Lowry 13).
Harpreet Kalsi: University of Michigan The “jock” is one of the most infamous high school stereotypes, yet it is not far from reality for many high schoolers that play sports. Egos driven from making the team, hearing stadiums cheer their name (even though they are really cheering on the team), and the unavoidable spotlight often make way for an athlete to sometimes become a “jock”. This can happen because of the difference between jocks and athletes; Jocks are associated with ego, popularity, arrogance, and narcissism while athletes connotate drive, determination, humility, and selflessness. So while both play side by side, their characters have grown to be quite different. This is how sports hough high school have influenced me; they have helped me grow and learn humility and purpose.
Stereotyping is an issue that affects all ages, genders, and races. Not all stereotypes are bad, but when you maliciously stereotype it becomes a problem. In S.E. Hinton’s young adult novel The Outsiders, stereotyping is a significant issue. There are two gangs in this novel, the “greasers”, and the “Socs”. The greasers live on the east side and are known as “hoods”.
In the story “The bicycle’’, by Jillian Horton, Hannah experiences a transition from an ignorant, obedient and disciplined child to a rebelling, disobedient and independent adolescent.
Gasoline and diesel are fossil fuels and aren 't infinite. Battery electricity are better, they don’t pollute and don 't burn fossil fuels. Instead of having a gas tank and having to fill it up at a gas station, these cars have batteries in their place and can be recharged with a larger charging station and needs 220 volts. The recharged batteries stay charged until the car is driven. Some people say that battery powered cars are slower, but it isn’t by much and battery powered cars think is worth slowing down a little if it means saving the planet.
Soumya Saji Ms. Patiño English 2/16/18 Global warming as became a huge concern for today’s world. The rise of alternative fuel sources is to help this worldwide problem, as a result, electric cars have started to become a familiarity to everyday roads. Electric cars have many benefits and potentially does help with global warming, but it may not be as environmental-friendly as advertised.
Intro: Imagine waking up and getting ready for your day in a car that picked you up with no driver. I support self driving cars because i feel it will improve the future of driving. Self driving cars will save cost on insurance and healthcare facilities. Also self driving cars will help disabled and elderly individuals and will take the danger of driving out of the equation.
