In the story “Shouting ‘Fire!’” Alan M. Dershowitz claims that Justice Holmes uses an analogy of “Shouting Fire!” His analogy refers to a person’s freedom of expression. Every act depends upon the circumstances in which it is done. By shouting “fire” an individual is implying alarm, and the indication of alarm will ultimately cause chaos.

Rush Limbaugh discusses multiculturalism and its possible failings to America culture. Limbaugh believes teaching minorities about their roots hinder their “future as Americans.” He continues to say “If you want to prosper in America, if you want access to opportunity in America, you must be able to assimilate: to become part of the American culture.” This statement, personally, implies other cultures cannot have the same work ethic and values as “regular” Americans, which is a presumptuous statement to make. To a certain point, yes, incoming immigrants and generational immigrants do have to adapt to the American culture, but their roots do not discount their ability to succeed in American society.
The presidential election in 2016 has definitely been one to remember. A woman won a nomination and Donald Trump became the presidential nominee for the United States of America. Chris Matthews, who is a political commentator, wrote a book titled Hardball: How Politics is Played Told by One Who Knows the Game. This book lists several maxims, or rule of conduct, that he believes politicians use the most. A few of them seem obvious, like positioning or keeping your enemies in front of you.
Thompson’s exuberant drug use is another factor that marks the gonzo journalist as a liberal-minded person. Thompson didn’t only take an excessive amount of drugs to document his findings in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but he also was an avid user of drugs and alcohol in everyday life. He never openly promoted drug use but when asked about drug use he said, “I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.” It is safe to assume that most conservative thinkers do not condone drug use like Thompson did. Thompson held a perceptive open-mindedness for life’s pleasures, one that most conservative thinkers do not posses.
Both writers have the same rebellious mindset and agree that the time for the revolution has
Prior to reading the article Ezra Klein’s How to Stop an Autocracy, I was unfamiliar with the term “autocracy” actually meant in context. Undoubtedly, the United States finds itself in a divisive state; yet, I found it intriguing to read the Klein believes that Trump’s administration will not threaten America’s system of government and how the country will not become an autocracy. I agree with Klein when he says that, “His oft-stated admiration for authoritarians in other countries — including, but not limited to, Vladimir Putin — speaks to his yearning for power” [1]. Donald Trump wants to appear powerful and tough in front of his audience, a political tactic that has gotten him far as a businessman, perhaps this is because that is what he
In political science, astroturfing is an attempt to give the false impression that a certain candidate or policy enjoys widespread grassroots support of the community when little such support exists. Many companies perform astroturfing to hide the financial and business associations between the company and the message, potentially making corporate messaging more palatable to a public that might reject forthright propaganda. From the video, Astroturfing: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, we can evaluate the video's strengths and weaknesses in presenting the issue of Astroturfing, explain how John Oliver defines Astroturfing, and what examples does he use to prove his point about astroturfing and define what the dangers of astroturfing are
William Domhoff’s investigation into America’s ruling class is an eye-opening and poignant reading experience, even for individuals enlightened on the intricacies of the US social class system. His book, Who Rules America, explains the fundamental failures in America’s governing bodies to provide adequate resources for class mobility and shared power amongst classes. He identifies history, corporate and social hierarchies, money-driven politics, a two-party system, and a policy-making process orchestrated by American elites as several causes leading to an ultimate effect of class-domination theory pervading American society. In articulating his thesis and supporting assertions, Domhoff appeals rhetorically toward an audience with prior knowledge
Dr. Ben Carson had been under plagiarism allegations in the past, due to a book he originally published 2011 called “America the Beautiful” In this novel he took many sections of other authors work dating back to 2007, and failed to give any of them the proper recognition. I would use Dr. Carson’s work as an example of intentional plagiarism. “Salomon also solicited every able-bodied Jewish man to fight in Washington’s army. After the war, he organized the first American veterans’ organization, “The Jewish War Veterans,” which is still active today.”
Abortion Abortion is one of the most controversial topics an intense debate in our society. Abortion is the intentional ending of a pregnancy before birth and is morally wrong, it is considered murder. There are various reasons for abortion but known of them is a feasible excuse to kill a living being which God loves and has created, no matter the means of the abortion the fetus has life and has the right to live. Morally abortion is not acceptable Jeremiah 1:5 say’s before I formed the in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
