Sofia was born September 18, 1977 in a small little town in Mesoamerica, called Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit. Sofia was a very curious, troubled, and independent child. Sofia didn’t really have the best childhood. Her parents were very strict, especially her father, who abused her with a belt from time to time. They sheltered her from the world. Not to mention, her sisters harassed her constantly removing a shirt borrowed of theirs in front of dirty men who laughed at the exposure of a little girl throwing her hands over her chest, fleeing from the scene. Except for one of them. She was the middle child and she took care of Sofia, when everyone else caused her sorrow. Her name was Lydia and in Sofia’s eyes, she was an angel sent from god. It all faded away in a blink of an eye, coming to understand that happiness did not exist. Majority of her childhood she looked after herself, for her parents migrated to California in hopes of a better life. At around the age of 8, Sofia decided to take matters into her own hands and search for her parents in California alone. Countless of times she tried and her success was meager. She tried hiding in trucks, cases, and lastly, she was caught trying to shovel under a sharp-razor fence and as a result was captured by the Immigration enforcement and had her fingers imprinted for records. After rigorous attempts and scant obstacles, she was finally able to find her way into the US borderlines. Her only thoughts that scattered in her mind, was locating her parents. Crossing alone was intimidating, the horrors of kidnapping, afraid of being approach at any given time, where to sleep for the time being and other concerns. Days went on in search for those she cherished the most, having to shield herself constantly from police officers for she was a young little girl walking aimlessly in the big world. She did everything in her power to simply survive in an area she was never aware
