Background
Born in 1948, Audrey Wood’s earliest memories are in Sarasota, Florida in the winter quarters of the Ringling Brother’s Circus where her father painted circus murals for extra money (Audrey’s Biography!, n.d. para 1). Audrey also had the experience of living in Mexico at a young age which helped her pick up Spanish as a second language. Both of her parents were professional artists there for that fueled her own desire to become one as well. It was not until the 4th grade did she decide that she wanted to write children’s books (Audrey’s Biography!, n.d., para 6). In 1978 she published her first book.
Interesting Facts Audrey Wood did not write books until after she married Don Wood. Her writing was stagnant until after the birth of their son Bruce. While he was growing up she read him books and this reignited her passion for writing books (Audrey’s Biography!, n.d., para.

The napping house in the book The Napping House is modeled after her own house (Questions and Answers, n.d. para.4). In Heckedy Peg she modeled as the mother, and her husband modeled the witch in it (Questions and Answers, n.d., para. 5).
Audrey and her husband Don have worked together to create many books. They both author and illustrate them. With time their son, Bruce, also became interested in working with the duo. Audrey’s latest books like Alphabet Rescue have been illustrated by Bruce who specializes in using computers to create the illustrations (Anderson, 2010, p. 58).
Audrey states that she works everyday but enjoys doing what she does (Questions and Answers, n.d., para. 7). She also spends her time between playing and working.
