Bird Endangered, vulnerable, rare or not threatened Human actions impacting on species’ survival
Golden-shouldered Parrot Endangered The golden shouldered Parrot is endangered because of a lack of food and vulnerability. Humans are contributing to this by reducing the amount of back-burning and having more intense cattle and pig grazing. For example since Europeans have settled there has been a reduction of intentionally lit fires. This leads to the decrease in the number of parrots because of the alteration of their habitat. Scheduled fires are required to keep grasslands open and promote food availability for the parrots. Also animals such as goannas and pied butcher birds find it easy to predate on the eggs of the golden shouldered parrot in dense vegetation. Pig and cattle grazing is also a big

The first reason is that they are suffering from loss or modification of their habitats due to land clearing for either farming or urbanization. Secondly, urbanization brings with it the problems of vehicle strikes, dog attacks and human interactions. In residential areas it is common for cassowaries to get attacked by dogs when they are foraging for food in someones back yard or even in the wild. Also an example of human interaction would be hand feeding. This has many problems including that the cassowary may become dependent on you for food and when you go away or move they will starve. Hand feeding cassowaries near roads will encourage them to come for more and this can increase the amount of vehicle strikes. Lastly, the introduction of pigs has also had an effect on the cassowaries survival as they compete with them for food, eat their eggs and modify their
