In recent years, the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) community has been the subject of conversation; it has even become a trend to guess who is ‘straight’, or heterosexual, and who is not. However, the general public has only focused on two letters of the LGBTQ acronym: the Lesbians and the Gays. The rest are ignored or invalidated, meaning people reject the fact that those sexual orientations are real. A sexual orientation I want to shed light on is bisexuality. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bisexuality is defined as follows: “sexually attracted to both men and women”. In other words, bisexuals experience sexual attraction to their own gender, and also experience sexual attraction to other genders beside …show more content…

Many famous celebrities we know and love are bisexual: Megan Fox, Frank Ocean, Ezra Miller, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, even Marilyn Monroe. Another famous bisexual is Alexander the Great, a Greek king who created and ruled one of the largest empires of the ancient world. Alexander demonstrates that bisexuality has been around for a very long time, and the aforementioned celebrities are living proof of this sexuality’s existence. June Jordan, a famous poet and activist, talks about her sexual orientation: “Bisexuality means I am free and I am as likely to want to love a woman as I am likely to want to love a man, and what about that? Isn’t that what freedom implies?” Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of the band Green Day, also has an opinion on the social stigma of bisexuality: “I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of ‘Oh, I can’t’. They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all.” Bisexuality is not just reserved for the rich and famous, normal people are just as likely to be bisexual.
