Lizzie Borden was born on July 19, 1860 and died June 1, 1927. She was an American woman who was tried and acquitted in 1893 for the axe murders of her stepmother and her father in 1892. She lived in Fall River, Massachusetts with her sister, father and stepmother. Lizzie’s mother Sarah Borden was deceased and died when Lizzie was only 3 years old. Lizzie was born into a wealthy family due to her father manufacturing and selling furniture and caskets, and went on to become a successful property developer.
The murder of Lizzie Borden’s father, Andrew borden, and her stepmother Abby Borden has been an ongoing mystery over 100 years now. No one has seemed to figure out the real murderer. A main suspect that the police had interviewed was Lizzie borden, the daughter to Andrew Borden and step daughter to Abby Borden. Yet no one has seemed to figure out the real murderer. I believe Lizzie borden murdered her parents with having satisfaction that she covered it up so well.
The Jararaca Pit Viper On page 26 of his book, The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, David Grann presents information on the Jararaca pit viper. He stated that the Jararaca is the most venomous snake in the Americas. One bite will cause a person to bleed from the eyes and become a corpse piece by piece. I found this interesting because I had never heard of the Jararaca and would like to research more information about them. Throughout my essay I will discuss the physical description, mating and reproduction habits, and behavior of the Jararaca pit viper.
Lizzie Borden’s Murder Case Lizzie Andrew Borden is the daughter of Andrew and Abby Borden and was accused by many of killing her parents. The murder case is still very famous today because it was the first nationally famous murder. Lizzie’s family consisted of herself, her older sister Emma Borden, step-mother Abby Borden, and her father Andrew Borden. The family also had a live in maid, Bridget Sullivan. On the day of the murder the only people present at the house were Lizzie, Bridget, Abby, and later on Andrew, which caused many people to believe that Lizzie committed the murders.
“Lizzie Borden took an ax, and gave her mother forty whacks when she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one” the infamous song of Lizzie Borden allegedly accused of both the murders of her father and stepmother. But now come to think could she really have been innocent? There are many suspicious details leading to her being guilty but Lizzie was declared innocent. So now the suspicion begins. Despite the many information on the Lizzie Borden case, I believe Lizzie Borden should have been proven guilty.
In Fall River Massachusetts, on August 4, 1892 Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother. The youngest of three children, Lizzie was thirty-two at the time of the murders1. Her father, Andrew, was a well known banker in the area. Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby, had only been married to Andrew for a couple of years and did not get along well with Lizzie. Lizzie did have a good relationship with her sister, Emma, and her father, but her closest bond was with Emma.
The Axe Grinding Mystery of the Borden Murders “Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks and when she saw what she had done she gave her father forty one.” These famous words are dedicated to the suspected murderess, Lizzie Borden. Plenty of people feel as if Lizzie was not guilty of the murders, but many think she was. There is evidence for both sides of this daunting mystery, but no one really knows the truth: did Lizzie really commit this crime? Many questions are raised due to the Borden murders, and much evidence connects to the two theories, whether Lizzie murdered her parents or not.
Family, they are people we tend to love the most and care for. Although we care for our families they will get on our nerves occasionally, sometimes worse than other times. There has been multiple cases of people murdering their spouses and family members, as shown on many different investigation shows. One case that deals with the murder of one's family is the Lizzie Borden case. Lizzie Borden was accused of killing her father as well as her stepmother.
In Fall River a girl that goes by Lizzie Borden killed her parents out of anger and rage. This was a planned murder due to family friction and the relationship in the family. It seems apparent that Lizzie Borden killed her parents due to a bad relationship and friction between the three. Lizzie Borden killed her parents over a fit of range and an insecure mindset to be thinking. For example, she had a bad home life and relationship with her family members.
“Lizzie Borden took an ax, gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done she gave her father forty-one.” You may have heard this rhyme while jump roping or hopscotching when you were growing up, but this rhyme is not just a made up tune for the playground. This song was based on a true unsolved mystery that happened in 1892 (Linder). The song has displayed some misleading information, such as her mother receiving forty whacks and her father receiving forty-one. When in reality her stepmother was struck nineteen times and her father was struck ten or eleven times.
We’ve all heard the song, we all know what she did, but does anyone really know Lizzie Borden? Lizzie was spoiled rotten, an axe murderer, and has become a well known name to most conspiracists. Until the day her father died, Lizzie Borden got anything and everything she could have ever wanted. Lizzie’s father gave her the opportunity to continue her schooling even when women were rarely allowed this blessing. Although, he allowed Lizzie he did not allow his other daughter, Emma to attend past primary school.

Walter Mosley's Black Betty is a mystery novel seeking to solve mysteries beyond those printed on the page. Throughout the text Mosley uses the detective, Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins, to encourages the reader to examine topics such as: racism, religion, social hierarchies, and the importance of free thinking.
