In the play a streetcarna named desire the two main characters stanley and blanche are almost two of the same people.They both love to manipulate people and use there mean ways to kind of control people. Stanley is your typical man for these times back in these days in the 1940s. He drinks a lot of alcohol he also loves to go bowling and play poker with his friends his wife stella is sort of his push around,she does whatever he says and tries to justify his actions every time he beats her.Its just something the people at the time had to deal with most of the characters live in poverty so alcohol is a big factor in a lot of there problems.When we are introduced to blanche in the play we think she is heartfelt woman who had just been through alot in her life but as we …show more content…

Blanch and stella come from money so growing up for them wasn’t much of a struggle. Stanley on the other hand came from poverty he was in a the army and probably used to a different way of life than his wife and blanche. This sry takes place in New orleans in the late 1940s according to stella her sister only acts like this because when she was just a teenager her 1st husband had killed hisself and blanche had thought she was the reason for his death so she had to live on with the guilt for the rest of her life, in the play we see that blanche is a also a heavy drinker it makes you think she had to be drinking to cope with all the tragedies in her life. blanch and stanley are both heavy drinkers this is probably the on of the only things they have in common. Blanche depends on a mans sexual admiration for self esteem which means she is often scumbled by marriage. She is seeking a rich man to come and swift off her feet and love her
