In the year 1885, the block group was composed of residential spaces, manufacturing, and industrial buildings. On the other hand, in 1935, the block group transitioned into an area subject to open spaces, retail commerces, wholesales, and industries. The area primarily consists of services, offices, and retail commerce land uses in the current year, 2015. In summarization, the blocks have shifted their land uses throughout the three centuries in terms of manufacturing, retail commerces, and services. Throughout 1885, the blocks were generally occupied by residential spaces, manufacturing, and industrial land uses. The transition from residential dwellings to industrial spaces is prominently found in the block between 1st and 2nd Street as well as the block between 3rd and 4th Street. This transition can be clearly seen in the block furthest away from the river, where most of the residential spaces were replaced by plumbing storages or auto-repair services. The changes in the land usage drifted into more retails and more wholesales, which can be predominantly seen in the majority of the blocks between 2nd and 4th Street. In 1885, our group of blocks was dominated by residential spaces, whereas in 1935, the blocks were dominated by wholesale businesses that included storages, industries, and actual sales, while a few were classified as retail commerce. In the block on the right between 2nd and 3rd Street, a hardware wholesale takes up most of the space, with the exception of storage and railroad tracks for shipping purposes. Similarly, the block on the left on the same street maintains railroads and parking spaces in order to satisfy the carpenter’s commands. This change in land use shows the change in relationship with residential spaces, manufacturing shops, and offices in terms of their distribution. In other words, open spaces and offices commonly occupy the majority of the land uses in this section. For example, the block on the left between 2nd and 3rd Street obtains a huge pool, considered as open space, taking up most of the land’s capacity. The block on the bottom left corner maintains space for offices for property management, whereas the other blocks retain open space for parking lots. Furthermore, the block on the bottom left corner between 1st and 2nd Street consists of offices for the Gensler firm, while the block on the right side holds offices for Silicon Labs. In addition, the block between 3rd and 4th Street is specialized with offices for the Dick Clark Architecture firm. Moreover, the closest block to the Colorado River, in particular, is essentially a park of bikes and trails, which incorporates Olmsted’s idea of public parks movement.
