1208 Words5 Pages

Is Mayella Ewell really going to put an innocent man in jail to save her dad from going to jail for raping her? The book To Kill A Mockingbird is written by Harper Lee and is set in 1930s in an old southern town of Maycomb, Alabama. The way I see it there are seven main characters, Atticus Finch, Tom Robinson, Boo Radley, Jem Finch, Scout Finch, Mayella Ewell. Then there’s Bob Ewell who I find the most evil, rude, and inconsiderate person in the whole book. Other people may say that Mayella Ewell is more evil than Bob Ewell. Throughout the book, however, Bob Ewell has shown more hatred, immorality, and harmful actions than anyone else, including his daughter Mayella. Bob shows many traits of being evil. He caused the Finch family many …show more content…

Bob Ewell has put Maycomb and its people to shame. Everything he does, like having a job and then being too lazy to do it, resulting in him losing his job affects the family greatly. He doesn't care what people think because he lives in a dump and he basically expects everyone to pay for his bills by getting unemployment funds. Scout says, “ Mr. Ewell is the first person ever to lose a job from the WPA because of being lazy.” So after losing his job because of being lazy he gets money from other people, probably taxes, which isn't fair that other people pay the bills for him and his family. Over not paying bills he put the town through the court case which cost money and so the town lost money there again. On the other hand some people think that since Mayella is older she should help out around the house and get a job to help out her father pay the bills, but instead she wants to be an innocent little girl with no responsibilities. However, she is left to take care of her siblings and the entire household. Also the town would not have lost all of that money on the court case if Mayella would have told the truth about who really raped her. But after all, Bob is the father and he should work and provide a good life, home, and living environment for his kids. He doesn't even make his kids go to school so they can't get a job because they don't have an education. He really does nothing to help himself and his family when he should …show more content…

Bob Ewell tried to kill Jem and Scout first of all. Bob hurt Jem bad enough for Atticus to ask “do you think he is dead?” Even though Boo Radley came to the rescue of the kids he was still wrong for going after them. He should not have even tried to go after the kids, they are little and they had nothing to do with what happened to him or what he did to Mayella. He thought it was going to turn out the other way with Scout and Jem lying dead under the tree but it turned to be him lying dead under the tree. Any man who would give a kid a broken arm and give him a concussion shows many signs of hatred. Furthermore, by lying and bringing this case to action in the first place he hurt Jem and Scout. One way he hurt them was the kids at school were picking on Jem and Scout because their dad was defending a black man. Also after the court cases was over and Tom was made out to be guilty, this made Jem very upset. It hurt him bad enough to make him cry. If Bob Ewell would not have lied in the first place and blamed it on Tom, then Atticus would not have been assigned to be his lawyer. Also this court case would not have existed and the kids would not have been picked on or been exposed to a topic so mature at such a young age. As some people look at it that Mayella should have not lied about Tom raping her and then none of this would have happened in the first place. But Bob bringing this case to life made other kids at school make fun
