Abstract - The design for the measurement of bone strain requires more accuracy in order to determine the smallest variation occurs in their interconnected plates of bone. Bone strain measurement plays a vital role in the field of bone biology studies among the researchers to acquire more knowledge about the structure of bone for the betterment of orthopedic treatment. The variation in the mass of bone is identified using the sensors. Several sensors are recommended to sense the strain occurs due to force, acceleration, pressure or sound. The measured bone mass obtained from the sensor is a minimum value and need to be processed to get the original value even after the signal is transmitted to the receiver. The signal received is an analog …show more content…

The bone mass changes and is measured as a varying resistance through sensors which is a voltage signal important in the analysis of bone formation and deformation. The bone mass change depends upon the loading or unloading of bone. The various range of load applied on the bone make changes in the structure of bone. The strength of bone upto which it withstand the load is determined by the strain measurement. The identification of range of loads to which the patient can tolerate is significant for the analysis of the bone mechanism. This type of measurement is utilized by the patients to extend their rehabilitation exercises at each stage of treatment. The measurement and tracking of bone strain needs sensors to sense the change in bone mass, analog to digital converter for the easy processing of the voltage signal, amplifier to enhance the signal and filter to cut the unwanted information. The unit should be as small as possible to make it attached to the bone and requires battery for long time measurement [1]. Human bones are not considered for research purpose directly because the measurement analysis requires long time to obtain the expected result. Thus phantom tissue or scaffolds which possess the similar properties of bone is used as a substitute of bone for the testing purpose. The scaffolds are composed of chemical materials like bioceramics and biopolymers which …show more content…

The RF micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) strain sensor is fabricated by incorporating the multi split ring resonators [9]. The bone mechanism is understood by means of bone formation and deformation. The normalized cross correlation computation using graphics processing unit is used to estimate the deformation of bone with reduced computation time when compared to 2-dimensional normalized cross correlation based algorithm [10]. The strain occurs due to force, pressure, acceleration and sound is measured with the help of Micro scale strain gauges in Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) [11]. The Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) designed with 0.18µm CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology in Mentor graphics. In this design the ADC uses the power supply of 1.8V. The architecture varies due to which the consumption of power is reduced further when compared with the implementation of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate
