Paul the Apostle is the writer for about half of the New Testament and one of his most influential letters in the New Testament is the Book of Romans. Paul put his intellectual input on many different situations that the Christian Church was dealing with and made a generalization of his teachings into the Book of Romans to try to influence the Christian Church in Rome to sponsor his expedition west and to be claimed as one of Paul’s churches. The overarching theme in the Book of Romans that will be discussed is how Paul values the Israelite’s historical religion, how he views Jews during his lifetime and how Jews and Gentiles interact with each other in Christianity. Paul states that without the Torah or the beginnings of Judaism there would not be a very strong basis for Christianity. Also, with Judaism, Israel brought about special blessings that all Christians have enjoyed. Paul also tells us that the Old Israelites still need to put their faith in Christianity if they intend to be righteous with God. Fore without faith in Christianity, God will not save the Old Israelites. This brings out the image of salvation that is justification that Paul writes about in this book. Paul writes that God knows that Old Israelites have tried their best to keep the commandments of the Torah but no human except Jesus Christ is without sin. This means that everybody is a sinner, it does not matter if you know the Torah like a Jew or if you are unfamiliar with the Torah like a Gentile. Basically, Paul is saying that faith obligation surpasses law obligation. It is also stated that Paul agrees that God’s promise to the original Jews and Abraham is still very much intact. Still, it is controversial that God may have changed the term “ Israel ” in his promise to the Israelites to mean only the ones that have faith in Christianity. There is some controversy that it could also mean that all Israelites will convert to Christianity one day.
