A long way gone by Ishmael Beah. The main characters name is Ishmael and he was very lucky in this story. Ishmael and his friends escaped from the RUF, He survived every place that he went to, Ishmael was caught by other people and was able to get away from them, and he was saved and brought to a doctor for help at the end of the story. Through the whole book Ishmael talks about the RUF, which is the revolutionary united front. The RUF is trying to get boys to be apart of there team in the war. Ishmael and his friends are found by the RUF and they need to run away from them so they don’t become boy soldiers. As the boys are running away from the soldiers they are getting shot at, they are tripping, and getting there feet and legs are being hurt by bushes and rocks but they manage to make it alive from the RUF. The boys where all extremely lucky to escape from the RUF. Ishmael went to many different places in his story and at many of those places horrible things happened. At most places the RUF attacked and Ishmael had to leave that place. Other places where already attacked or were going to be attacked soon but at every place Ishmael went he survived and got out. Ishmael was very lucky to live through all of the places he went because not everyone survived but he did. …show more content…

Ishmael had things with him and those things got him away from people that had captured him like the rap cassettes he had in his pocket saved him from being killed. The cassettes fall out of his pocket and the chief that had captured him wanted to know what it was so when the cassettes are played for the chief he likes the rap and decides to let Ishmael and his group
