With over 50,000 casualties, the Battle of Gettysburg is the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War. The novel, The Killer Angels, portrays the story of the historical Battle of Gettysburg. The battle lasted from July 1, 1863 to July 3, 1863. Though only short battle, it was one of the largest battles of the American Civil War. These were the four most bloody and courageous days of the nation’s history. The battle was fought by two sides. One of the sides was the Confederate army, which was the South. And the other side was the Union army, which was the North. The head general of the South was named Robert E. Lee, and the second general of the South was Stonewall Jackson. The head general of the North was names Ulysses S. Grant, and the head general of the North was William T. Sherman. By the end of the battle, a little more than 50,000 men were either found dead, were wounded, or went missing.

When I first started reading it, I thought that it was going to be really boring because it was about history. But as I got further along in the book, I realized that it was not just a typical history book. Michael Shaara had written the book in a way so that it was easy for us to experience the American Civil War with the soldiers on the field. The different sections of the book were written so that it was from each individual’s point of view, which I found quite interesting. Michael Shaara approached this book in a different manner and I think it really did the book some justice. Now, not only do I know about the American Civil War, but I also know what it feels like to be there on the battlefield with the soldiers. During the book it shows both sides of one little battle.
