James Patterson has done it again. Unlucky 13 is a murder mystery and suspense book full of fast moving plots. Four women who work in law enforcement and the legal systems comprise a group known as The Women’s Murder Club. Set in modern day San Francisco, it gives a inside look on the process of them catching a serial killer. Unlucky 13 will keep readers on the edge of their seats after every page flip. Sergeant Lindsay Boxer is an investigator for the San Francisco Police Department. The book is told from her point of view. She plays a huge key throughout the series. She has 2 kids and a husband named Edmund. Her and Lindsay have been friends for over a decade. Another member of the group is Yuki Castellano. She is the ADA for San Francisco. She is very passionate about her job. In the book, she is dating Lindsay’s boss. Cindy Thomas is a former member of the group. She is a well known local crime investigative reporter. She and Lindsay share the same likes of reading travel books. It all starts when Lindsay is call to the scene of a single car accident. After investing the scene, Claire determines that the accident was in fact a murder. The two teenage victims looked as if their stomachs had exploded. Lindsay then picks up a fast food bag out of the car as evidence. Then the FBI got involved. As the evidence began to unfold, Claire discovered that small bombs were used. Mackie was a former SFPD intern who fell in love with a serial killer. After he died, she took over his obsession. That obsession seemed to be targeting Lindsay. While in Wisconsin, Mackie saw Cindy. She then left her a warning saying that she was on her way to San Fran to get some revenge. When Yuki and her husband were on their Alaskan cruise a band of hijackers board the ships shooting passengers. While giving a SEAL team enough time to get to the ship, Brady was shot. Thankfully, his injuries weren’t serious. He and Yuki later returned home. In the end Cindy killed Mackie before she got the chance to shoot Lindsay. It turns out, she were targeting her baby too. Even though she got shot in the process, she still saved her life. There were no more bombings and everything went back to being as normal as they could
