I chose the book Black Hearts by Jim Frederick because it was recommended to me by First Lieutenant Smaldone. He had to read it as course material during his training at TBS (The Basic School). Officers go to TBS following Officer Candidate School where newly commissioned officers learn to lead and inspire fellow Marines. Black Hearts is a non-fiction story about the 502nd Infantry Regiment’s deployment to a region south of Baghdad, Iraq and it’s breakdown of leadership, morale, and discipline. The Unit was known as “The Black Heart Brigade.”
In the book Nobodies the purpose of this book is to inform people that there is still slavery out there. The author John Bowe wants the audience to realize that slavery is not over with. John Bowe talks about how there is people mistreated and underpaid. John Bowes arguments are mainly how ugly modern day slavery is and it can get. Before reading this I did not know that there was so much slavery going on in this world.

Christopher Benson, a writer and lawyer, assisted Mamie Till-Mobley as a co-author in her personal biography. Death of Innocence was published in the year 2003 by Random House in New York. This memoir has 290 pages, including seven pages of Christopher Benson’s personal experiences with Mamie Till-Mobley in the afterword. Death of Innocence is categorized as an adult nonfiction book.
“Charles” by Shirley Jackson is a realistic fiction cliffhanger about Laurie, his adjustment to kindergarten, and a kid Charles, who seems to be a dreadful influence on the kindergarteners. The story is set in Laurie 's home and at his school. Laurie, his mother, his father, and Charles are the characters in the story. The lesson in the story is that lying leads to more problems than it solves and the author uses foreshadowing and word choice to show the lesson.

After convening together yesterday, I finally understood the true importance of my decision and of my votes; they will not only have a major impact on our present generation but on posterity as well. Therefore, I do not make this decision lightly, but given the current trajectory of our states and the future conflicts that might occur if we choose not to change, I strongly believe that ratifying the Constitution would be the best possible solution for our nation. For this reason, I am supporting and voting for John Adams, James Madison, and George Washington. John Adams convinced me that “unity, peace, and religious freedom” will prosper with the introduction of the Constitution; he persuasively argued that this unity will finally relieve the tensions between states. Reading The Shack affected me both spiritually and morally. It was challenging to read some of the ideas this book had, spiritually. Although, I related it to many different events that I have faced in my own life. I have related Mack to my own father and his strength towards our family. Also, I have related it to losing my grandfather, who played a huge role in my life growing up.
Chapter 4 of the book We the People talks about Civil Liberties, this chapter mainly talks about the Rights that were placed in the Constitution (not in the Bill of Rights), it also talks about the Bill of Rights and it describes the rights protected by the Bill of Rights. It also talks about specific rights that work close together with the Bill of Rights and Amendments rights. One of the first Amendments that is described in great detail is Freedom of Speech and Religion. The first Amendment protects US citizens right to talk about almost any topic in the United States. I said almost any topic because there are some forms of speech that aren’t protected by the First Amendment (these forms of speech can be limited or prohibited), some of the forms of speech that aren’t protected by the First Amendment are Fighting Words and Hate Speech, Student Speech, Libel and Slander speech.
