Book Review: Why I Don T Cry

The book Slated made me realize that even though there are some people and things that we identify, who we are is really who we want to be. No matter what you go through you can’t forget who you are, you can only ignore who you are and the protagonist in the book was a good example of that. In the book the protagonist (Kyla, Riley, Rain, and Lucy -they are all the same person) had her memory wiped. She was given a new name, a new family, a new personality, and throughout the book, she finds herself in trouble with the lorders who enforce and make the laws. So she had to change her name, location, and people she talked to multiple times so she wouldn’t be found out. But even though all of that she never forgot who she was, she still knew that truly inside her name was Lucy that was her and she knew that because it was in her heart not her mind This relates to my life because I have been through a lot of things that added or subtracted from my life and some of those things made me wonder about what defines me. Because I have tried to find new things to define me but this book helped me realize that it is really all inside. So there is no need for searching anywhere but within. She was surrounded by people she could trust, people she couldn't, and people she thought she could. And even though the book, as well as the rest of the series, has many ups and downs and plot twist the thing that gets her through and really keeps her alive is those around her. I always think about my family and my friends and how if I ever have anything difficult or stressful that I have to get through then they are the ones that I can count on to pull me through, and Lucy really helped me to remember that. I think it is so important because I usually concentrate on the situation at hand when really I can concentrate on how I'm going to get through it and that is with the help of those around
