The most Dangerous Game In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford was on the a ship watching the sea and they hit a bump and he fell off. It was pitch black when Rainford fell off, then he started swimming he heard three gun three shots. He listen and followed the shot once rainford's got out of the water he saw a building and he knocked on the door and a guy appeared with a gun to his head. Throughout the story, Connell uses mood, suspense and foreshadowing. Mood is used in the beginning when general zaroff walk rainford around and showed him where everything was he showed him where he was staying, the stuff he killed like the animals. After general Zaroff was done showing him the stuff he asked if we wanted dinner and rainford said yes. he cooked Rainford a nice meal like steak and potatoes and a salad. after they were both done eating he told Rainsford “ And now said the general, “I want to show you my new collection of heads. Will you come with me to the library?” (Connell 76). rainsford set a trap to get greanl zaroff and end the game of greanl zaroff trying to kill rainford and use rainsford mean for other people to eat and then he would cut off his head and put it on a wall. so while all of this going in rainsford head he heard people coming but one thing the narrator says it “ Rainsford, crouching there, could not see the general, nor could he see the pit. He lives a year in a minute.” This is suspense to me because he could not see the grenal coming up on to find him. rainford was behind a tree and you know you can't see through trees.
