In the poem “Glory” the writer Yusef Komunyakaa is trying to explain that everyone can achieve glory. He starts out by saying that “most were married teenagers, working knockout shifts daybreak to sunset six days a week.” When he says this he is stating that not everyone is born into glory but can still experience it. Then he goes on to say. “They were all Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, a touch of Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige.”

Most histories of the Second World War, focus on the politics, battles, or generals and leaders, whereas this book is about the experience of the different minorities in America.
Holly Corbin Mr. Gorman Civil War 10 October 2014 Synopsis of Gods and Generals Jeff Shaara’s Gods and Generals follows four of the most influential officers of the Civil War: General Robert E. Lee, Lt. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, Major General Winfield Scott Hancock, and Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Shaara introduces these men in the years before the Civil war and ends the novel upon the eve of the Battle of Gettysburg. Shaara depicts the emotional drama of soldiers fighting old friends while accurately relaying historical details including troop movements, strategies, and tactical combat situations.
I chose the Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt. The moral of this book is how it feels to have a school that is not normal, and have a teacher hate your guts. This book is about a seventh grader named Holling Hoodhood, and he goes around the school, acting serious about things. When things go downhill and all his classmates get mad at him, he tries his best to fix it. Mrs. Baker hated Holling, but then Holling acted like a friend to her, and the hate relationship was over.

When you watch these young ladies your breathe just gets sucked right out of you and you have a loss of words. No wonder these girls are the top team and the most well known team in the country. Life is like a sports game. Some games you win, some you lose. In life, some days are full of conflict, and some are not. Participation trophies diminish the meaning of winning and produce a lack of motivation among our youth today. Though rewarding all players with a trophy is counteractive, positive reinforcement is not. Positive reinforcement is key in the process of encouraging adolescents to continue to pursue the sport they are playing. The winners should receive a trophy to endorse their hard work and accomplishment; those who lost, but kept playing, should receive a non-materialistic item such as a pizza party or ice cream to acknowledge their determination when playing the game.
