He is sending Sugrīva with a garland to pin point him; will that garland withstand one blow? They do not stay when upanyāsam is done. Vāli’s one blow will destroy it. Will that identification last till the end? The secret is – Perumāḻ cannot kill Vāli and bestow the kingdom to Sugrīva just like that because Sugrīva has done bhāgavata apacāram. When a person has that blemish, Perumāḻ cannot bequeath kingdom or wealth. nivṛttimapi dharmamatti anagha tasya yan nigrahaḥ (Śrī Deśikan says in sañkalpa sūryodayam-3.32). Even though Āñjaneya warned Sugrīva to treat both Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa reverentially, Sugrīva offered a seat with sāla tree branches solely for Rāma. He did not offer one for Iḻaiya perumāḻ.
