In this chapter, I chose to write about Hytapia Belicia Cabral. I think Diaz wants the audience to know details about Belicia's life, struggles, hardship, and why she is they way she is. Belicia had a difficult life growing up without a father, mother, and her two sisters. Her father, mother, and two sisters passed away while Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina was the dictator of the Dominican Republic. What I like about the character Belicia is that she wanted to become independent at a young age.

Back then it was hard trying to immigrate into America and hard finding jobs. Immigrate is where you come from one country to another. It wasn’t worth immigrating/coming to America. It was hard finding jobs because the American people thought that the immigrants would take over their job.
While New England wasn’t an English colony in the beginning, they still needed to import goods and export raw materials back to the Virginia Company. Massachusetts Bay colonials exported beaver furs used for hat making, timber for shipbuilding, and cured fish. The forests in and around New England had never been logged and the streams and river systems were still packed with beaver. At first contact Cape Cod was the world's finest fishing grounds. This allowed for a rich fishing industry that helped the Massachusetts Bay colony create commerce.
