$22,000,000,000, that’s what the bottled water industry has turned into. What if everything they have ever told us, is a lie? The reality of the situation is, bottled water companies have altered our way of thinking about water. Companies such as Aquafina, Nestlé, and Evian are all about making money. Just because such companies are selling bottled water, doesn't mean college campuses should buy it and resell it to their students. The fact that over 90 college campuses across the nation have band the selling or using of bottled water on their campuses,(Savedge, web) have shown that other college students have had the same thoughts that I have. We should use the cheaper alternative, which is tap water. Tap water has been proven to be safer than most bottled water, and we could cut down on waste with all those thousands of plastic bottles. …show more content…

The fact is bottled water is just as, if not more, expensive than bottled soda, that alone is alarming. "The bottle water industry grossed a total of $11.8 billion on 9.7 billion gallons into 2012" (Boesler, web). Think about how much money companies are charging for water. That's 300 times what tap water cost. So why would students that do not have a lot of money spend it on something like a bottle of water? Bottled water is regulated differently than tap water. The fact that tap water has a stricter set of rules and regulations than bottled water should make students think about what their ingesting. The problem is many only think about the plastic that the bottle is made of, but not so much of the actual water inside the container. Look around on the television, the media lies about everything, and there is so much hypervigilance taught to students; so why can they not be as vigilant about the necessary water they consume in their
