On June 1,1985, Greg Wilhoit’s wife, Kathy, was found murdered, leaving their two daughters of four and fourteen months old left in the care of their father. The small necessity of having a family was abruptly altered when Kathy was murdered, and even more so when Wilhoit was falsely convicted by evidence of a bite mark, matched to him by two dental “experts.” To worsen the situation, Wilhoit’s lawyer, who once was one of the best, fell into alcoholism, resulting in his not preparing a defense, and showing up to the trial drunk. Fiction books can have a great impact with their readers by talking about what happens in our society. Secondly reading fiction books is really beneficial because it helps you be more knowledgeable. The Holocaust was a devastating event that had outreaching effects on many groups of people and many countries. Although most of this devastation happened to the Jewish Race. There are many books, movies, memoirs, and academic journals regarding the Holocaust, portraying how it affected different people and their stories. One memoir that will be discussed is Night written by Elie Wiesel about his life during the Holocaust. Also a movie by the name of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas will be discussed.
Different types of literature open new doors through which students’ can explore the unknown and expand their knowledge of controversial topics. The great examples found in literature have been the subject of much debate, as school boards wrestle with whether children should be allowed to read such difficult, harsh topics, as said in the article “How Banning Books Marginalizes Children” (Source F). There are so many brilliant works of literature spanning a wide variety of genres and topics, and a single school board should not determine what students learn. No one is proposing that second graders read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, but rather that we intentionally choose literature that will expand, rather than limit, children’s options and minds. Not only do these great works lay the groundwork for our future generation, but they also serve to diversify students’ writing and analysis skills.
Fiction is needed to develop other forms of thinking and to expand creativity. Fiction novels could help students view things from different perspectives. It may help us in a similar situation from the book for example,in the book “The hate u give “ by Angie Thomas there is a situation with police brutality and the way he handled it can inspire others to do the same or we could see where it went wrong and not do that. A young African American male is shot and killed by a white policeman. Garden Heights residents come together in the face of unspeakable tragedy which reflects the strong sense of community felt by those who live in Garden Heights.
By learning about the Holocaust, students start to understand the sensitivity of the topic and also understand that Hitler’s actions not only affected the Jews and Germany, but the whole world as well. Students are able to realize that the Holocaust wasn’t an accident; it occurred because people, governments, and organizations made this decision based on racism and prejudice. This helps establish critical thinking skills where they can make more responsible decisions and force intellectual self improvement. These skills are needed as they grow up and go to high school or college.

The Holocaust should be taught to 8th Grade Students because it would teach too much power. In the book, “I Have Lived A Thousand Years,” the Nazi’s gain ro much power. But all power gained vaninshises from the defeat. I believe it should be taught to 8th Grade Students because a few 8th graders experience one person gaining too much power, and that is called Bullying.

The earth was created a billion years ago, made for human life to live on. Also, created to hold billions of people in a peaceful and good environment. In other words, that had never happened. For centuries many people have been racist and prejudice to others. As a result, wars, hatred, and protests broke out, because people thought they were better than others.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas The Grinch who stole Christmas is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books and one of my favorite Christmas movies. I found 3 things similar to one another in the book and the movie which had the Grinch who hated Christmas, the Who’s who loved Christmas, and the Grinch stole all of the presents and food. One identical thing I found in the movie and book was that the Grinch hated Christmas. If they didn’t put the Grinch’s hate for Christmas in both the book and, he would have no reason to steal Christmas and it wouldn’t have been a very good movie.
The movie Cinderella Man was incredibly accurate of what it was like to live in the great depression, in its portrayal of the characters, setting, and events of the movie. Like in the movie, Jim J. Braddock was a boxer that lived during the great depression. He had many adversities that he had to face, and they are generally what fueled him to continue fighting. Movies usually tend to over exaggerate struggles, but Cinderella Man shows the raw reaction and reality during that time. The details about the characters in this movie are very accurate except for a few small details.
