On June 14, 1969, Dennis Lloyd Martin disappeared in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Upon his disappearance, he was playing with his brother and a few friends they had met on their trip. Quickly realizing that Dennis was not with the other boys, his father began to frantically search for him and was later able to contact park rangers in the area to help with the search. After filing the missing report, an intensive search was organized, and numerous volunteers came forward to assist in finding the missing boy. On June 29, 1969, the official search came to a halt, and to this day, no one knows what truly happened to Dennis Martin.
One has no father and the other has an old father that almost dreams of a way to die. This is just one of many reasons that this is a coming of age story. The way that these two boys are raised is what makes them grow up in different ways at different speeds. First, look at the way the two boys act. Jim Nightshade is the boy that cannot wait to grow up and do adult activities.
These both show that even against seemingly impossible odds you can still thrive and overcome any hardship and grow into a successful and honorable person. This also shows how much a child’s caregiver and the way they are raised can affect them. Abuse is a very serious issue and going unnoticed can have very harmful
In both stories, The Watsons go to Birmingham and Making Sarah cry has the same themes being different. In the story The Watsons go to Birmingham, they faced discrimination. Also in the story Making Sarah Cry the bully was getting bullied and Sarah came and said “ stop bullying him because he is a friend of mine” and when the bully’s stopped bully boy and bullied Sarah the boy also stood up for Sarah,This is being different because before the boy used to bully Sarah but now that he saw that Sarah stood up for him so did he. This two stories are different because of their affect on society. One story is about race and the other story is about a girl getting bullied on the playground.

The themes of the realistic fiction story, Boy’s Life and the fable, Emancipation: A Life Fable are very similar. Both develop ideas about freedom, however, the exact way the theme develops is slightly different. The overall theme in each text is that freedom comes with patience. In Boy’s Life, the main character desperately wants freedom. It is the last school day of the year, and he wants nothing more than to begin summer vacation.
The two different themes were; family and freedom. Family for example, Frederick Douglass never knew who his father was and he only saw his mother a few times until she died. He loved them anyway, even if he didn’t really know them. Frederick Douglass never met his father, so he never got to build a relationship with him.
Unequal Childhoods is an ethnography outlining the study done by Annette Lareau which researched how socioeconomic classes impact parenting among both white and African American families. She used both participant observation and interviewing. 12 families participated in this study where she came to conclusions on whether they displayed parenting styles of concerted cultivation or natural growth based of their socioeconomic status. Concerted cultivation is a parenting style where the parent(s) are fully invested in creating as much opportunity for their child as possible, but results in a child with a sense of entitlement. An example of this would be a parent who places their children in a wide array of extracurricular activities and/or actively speaks to educators about the accommodations their child needs to effectively learn.

The common theme in both stories, is coming of age. In the two stories, the main character was dealing with peer pressure and eventually, the characters realized that they could be independent and make their own decisions. In the story “Initiation,” Millicent was going through initiation to be part of the group. To get in, she had to do everything Bev wanted. However, Millicent realized that she didn’t want to be part of the group because “there were other ways of getting into the great hall, blazing with lights, of people and of life.”
Growing Up in Maycomb Growing up is part of life. Whether you realize it or not with age comes knowledge and with knowledge comes maturity. For Scout losing her innocence is inevitable. From dealing with bad teachers, going to an old lady's house everyday for month, to seeing a man be wrongfully accused of rape, to realizing you’re childhood villain is your guardian angle.
A girl from Mexico wow what a great film I must admit. As it starts with a white man who is send to Mexico to look for a female who is talented to bring back to New York City to perform to white rich people. Dennis found this beautiful girl name Carmelita. Dennis at the instant offered her the job opportunity and the flight to New York.
Another difference in the stories are in the way celebration is held and the reason behind it. In “Young Goodman Brown” there is a celebration; a gathering amongst the townspeople but the gathering is not for sharing happy moments rather they gather as sinners. Everyone in the gathering has sinned one way or another. While in “The Prodigal Son” the celebration involved the slicing of a calf to rejoice over the return of the prodigal son. This difference in celebration shows how difference the stories are and how celebration for goodness and celebration for evil reveal a person’s true
Baldwin’s creative style in both stories effectively gives his audience perspective and insight into these themes, permitting a deeper comprehension of how they relate to the world outside of his stories.
Life for me growing up was super difficult. A lot of my childhood was pure traumatic. Also, it was a struggle for me and my family, money wise and food wise. Also, our house was very small. We even lost our father and I also became a teen mom.
