Oil plays a major role in war and peace. Since many years we have seen many wars and fights for oil. In today’s world people are over exploiting the petroleum and gas energy. Nevertheless, due to awareness of oil resources and its production there are some ethical code of conduct made for all the companies which should be followed by all the companies as it is for the welfare of the society. Production of oil has resulted many unethical practices which harm people and environment in several manners which will be discussed in this essay. It happened on April 20, 2010. It is the largest marine oil spill in history. Around 200 million gallons of crude oil was spilled in the Gulf of Mexico for a total of 87 days. It caused 11 deaths and 17 injured workers. The fire burnt for 36 hours before the rig sank. It also affected the fishing and tourism industries. According to some news resources the news was that the company ignored the safety measures over profits. Considering coss cultures it has affected the businesses across boundaries like fishing, tourism and killed more than 8000 animals (bird, turtles, mammals) out of which many were already on the endangered species list. BP is responsible for close to $40 Billion as fine, cleanup costs, and settlement as a result of the oil spill in 2010. Company paid additional $16 billion to the clean water. (Referencing guardian).
