Between 1967 and 1989, Brazil suffered several changes that led to the emergence of democracy. Many factors contributed to the transition from a repressive military dictatorship to a liberal democratic regime. It was a time of political turmoil where many reforms were made. The Congress became divided between the militaries that wished to maintain the regime and the ones that believed Brazil was ready for democracy to be established.
