One paramount difference right now is that healthcare organizations are essentially hiring in lieu of firing; hence, recruitment and retention are one of the most paramount issues. This is not obligatorily the case in other industries. The Cumulated States health care system faces many challenges in endeavoring to find a viable future. According to Dombovy (2002) among the critical issues are: • Achieving consensus on the constructs of health care • Reducing clinical variation/ enhancing quality • Financing incipient technology and drugs while circumscribing the rate of incrimination in health care costs.
My goal is to become a primary doctor working with underserved communities, especially the Latino community. My work and volunteer experience and my professional goal are committed to provide service to the community with cultural competence, diversity and service orientation. CMSRU humanistic education in the art and science of medicine will complement these life experiences, characteristics, as well as my professional and personal interests and goals. Ambulatory care settings are often the first places where patients discover why patient’s chose Bellin. Bellin has illuminated my professional career, advocating for patients and families within my current ambulatory setting position, as evidence in finding a personal passion in supporting a pilot refill team as the lead registered nurse coordinator was on maternity leave. This previous experience has given me the insight to further challenge myself. Professional development has expanded not only myself in my career professionally, as well as educationally in working toward my masters within nursing, but through involvement as now a committee member of the advancement team. In completing three advancement program cycles as a participant, signifies how increased awareness can be expanded further into ambulatory settings as a number of extravagant opportunities for professional career advancements.
I chose TTUHSC SOM because of the ability to learn medicine in a place that values the art of patient care in its foundation as well as the ability to do anything I hope to do in medicine guided by the strength of its mission and the care that TTUHSC SOM provides for its students. I would like to conduct my medical career in a setting that converges between urban and rural settings. My parents brought their strong work ethic from Ghana, cultivated on their family’s farms, to Austin, Texas where it was critical in encouraging my own desire to work in close contact with a diverse population of patients. My experiences in the communities I’ve lived in and health care have provided me with the insight to work within both types of areas. My most prominent experiences in health care have come from working in clinics that serve underserved populations.
Like the MEPN program, I’m committed to engaging, educating, and treating underserved communities alongside like-hearted healthcare professionals. My deep compassion, extensive work experiences, and honed leadership skills have uniquely equipped me to bring my own contributions to the richness of the MEPN program. It doesn’t stem solely from my upbringing but from my proactive determination to develop and transcend within my work and education. Additionally, I firmly believe that the art and science of quality and inclusive healthcare begin with understanding the challenges and needs of underserved populations.
It was a warm summer afternoon of August, 1999, at a friend’s house when I was introduced to rheumatoid arthritis. It was a casual and startling encounter. His aunt greeted me at the door to take me to the guest room. She seemed to be in her mid-40’s, had a round face with thin reddish skin, painful looking hand deformities and a slow, limping gait; most strikingly, an aura of pain was visible all around her. I asked my friend, concernedly, why she looked so different.

Working in a clinic allows me to vision how my private practice will operate. After shadowing for several weeks, the long eight hours of standing and assisting patients was second nature to me. I have the opportunity to work with pediatric and geriatric patients. Although, I have experience working with both outside of the field medicine, I want to continue while in my career. While interacting with geriatric patients, who tells ten-minute stories before mentioning their real symptoms, I realize patience and diligence is a skill I must possess.
The level of care that the varying healthcare professionals provided to these patients was fascinating and became intrigued to a career path in the medical field. Over the next couple of years, I narrowed the possibility
For the majority of people, pursuing a career in the medical field is a career which should be avoided at all costs. Whether this profession is a surgeon, a nurse, or a psychiatrist, the long hours of study and work (which are necessary for these occupations), are not in most people’s definition of a “fun job.” In addition, after the long years of study come to an end, the most feared moments arise, the time to pay student loans. Nevertheless, none of these obstacles intimidated Juan Delgado in order to pursue his dream as a healthcare professional, more importantly, to help our community. Delgado, the oldest of two, was born on December 3rd,1991.
