There are many criminal charged cases of kidnapping a year, so how do these bride kidnappings differ from such a heart-wrenching event.There are already laws in Kyrgyzstan that quite clearly state the fact that bride kidnappings or the kidnappings of women into marriage is illegal, but that does little to nothing from helping the women or stopping the men (Chung). If there are already laws that make the kidnappings illegal, why does it still happen? There are almost no cases ever brought to trial about the kidnappings. No matter what happens that could potentially count as breaking the law, doesn’t get brought to trial because of the little law enforcement. According to Craig S. In order to accept what has been done, it is up to the groom’s male relatives to break the news to the bride’s family. In a video presented by Vice, Thomas Morton explains to viewers that “once the bride says yes, the groom’s family will go over to the bride’s house and men bring many gifts in order to smooth things over” (“Bride kidnapping”). Besides just bringing gifts, “The groom’s family will do whatever the bride’s family asks because they are guilty of being thieves” (“Bride Kidnapping”). The people who helped conduct the kidnapping even know that what they did was wrong because they are going over to the house of the bride, bringing gifts and sheep out of remorse. They know that they are taking away someone else’s joy, so they must make up for it with materialistic items in exchange for an irreplaceable one. Though there are times when a family member of the bride will express how sad they feel that she has been taken, they let her go because of the label of it being a tradition. A grandmother of a young girl who was kidnapped, expressed how sad it made her that she was taken, but she couldn’t do anything and had to let it be because even she has been through it and you can’t change that. She also mentioned how it made her sad that the young girl was kidnapped before she could even finish school (Bride Kidnapping). Careless of who and when the men kidnap a young girl, they don’t get how dramatic of a change this is to the women.
