Paula Gonzalez was born on October 25th, 1932. In 1954 she entered the Sisters of Charity in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended the Catholic University in Washington DC where she earned her doctorate's degree in biology. For fifteen years, Gonzalez taught biology at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. Many other things happened in Gonzalez lifetime, such as in 1932 Hitler was beginning his propaganda that later led to World War ll. Another thing that occurred was that Amelia Earhart was the first woman ever to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Growing up, Gonzales was touched by God. One is that she converted an old chicken barn into “La Casa del Sol” , a passive-solar house that was used as a shelter that when temperatures dropped to zero, the La Casa del Sol stayed at fifty degrees.She also opened an energy efficient,solar-heated building called EarthConnection. Her accomplishments lead to her well-known nickname “Solar Nun”. Gonzalez also received Ohio’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 and was honored as women of the year by the Cincinnati Inquirer in 2014. Through the rest of her life she had many more energy system inventions. Gonzalez had a great public response from her scientific work and research. She received many awards for her inventions and achievements. Gonzalez was known for her energy efficient living and work spaces but she was also known for her vision of sustainability and good spirit. She wrote many articles and chapters about her scientific beliefs and views of the Catholic Church on science. There is also an award made in her honor, The Sister Paula Gonzalez Award. Gonzalez wrote that we as humans should do everything in God’s name and that we should be living in peace. Her whole life she has been strongly devoted to God. According to my research the Church’s reaction to Gonzalez’s research and inventions has been fairly good. No rewards or praise was given to Gonzalez from the church, but they did not punish her
