The Most Dangerous Essay “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story written by Richard Connell. The main character Rainsford is sailing on a yacht past an island called “Ship-Trap Island”. Rainsford wakes up from three gunshots coming from the island. When he goes to investigate he falls into the sea. Rainsford swam towards the gunshots and came across a castle. In the castle is two Cossack men, Zaroff and Ivan. They give Rainsford a place to sleep and some food but only to get him strong for the hunt. Zaroff prefers to hunt people as a game. The rules of the game is that the person will be given a supply of food, an excellent hunting knife and a three hours' start. The story stated that Zaroff hid people in his cellar to potentially hunt later. "We'll visit my training school," smiled the general. "It's in the cellar. I have about a dozen pupils down there now.”(Connell 9) Zaroff calls where he keeps his prisoners a “training school” because he wants his hunters to be strong when playing the game. Zaroff wants the hunters to be strong so that when they play the game there will be more of a challenge and excitement on Zaroff’s behalf. Zaroff was complaining to Rainsford that the game was getting boring and the hunters were doing stupid and obvious moves. "I do not feel so well. I am worried, Mr. Rainsford.
