“Rainsford held his breath. The general's eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring.” Rainsford is a skilled hunter that was challenged. To a deadly game of cat and mouse by a murderous hunter. The game is a game of wits and skill where the huntee has to survive in the jungle three days to win and the hunter has to kill the huntee with a pistol of the lowest caliber and range but he has his deadly hounds. The questions are, why didn't he spring on the general, why did the general never fire his gun, why did Rainsford make the general repast for the hounds, and why did Rainsford stay another night on the island. These all have reasons and answers that will be considered.

The main conflict between theses two characters is that the general uses men as game to hunt and Rainsford sees that as murder. Moral is a big part in why Rainsford hated the game and thought it was murder. …show more content…

Whereas the hunter would get a gun of the lowest caliber and range. Regardless of this fact the general had an opportunity to take a shot at Rainsford and yet he didn't. Why. The first day of hunting Rainsford was perched in a tree of which the general found but yet he didn't actually look at Rainsford never mind take a shot at him. What he did was walk away and save the hunt for tomorrow. But why didn't he want to save the hunt because his goal was still to hit his mark and take out the huntee of which he had never not failed to do. But like the general said sometimes the game would start to bore him even some of the people he hunted.. But he wanted to prolong this hunt of Rainsford because he knew that this would be a great hunt. And he loved the hunt because it was all he ever wanted and knew how to
